VERY EARLY SCOTTISH OAK QUAICH

£295

VERY EARLY SCOTTISH OAK QUAICH £295
Early Oak Quaich, Although most sources seem to agree that the earliest quaich's were made of wood and it seems likely that the form developed in the 16th Century. And there were two ways of making them. One was turned on the lathe out of a sold block of wood and the other was stave built like a miniature barrel held together with willow bands, opinions vary as to which form was the earliest.
It would seem those without a lathe could carve them from a single block like this delightful small example that now over time has acquired a wonderful deep colour and patination.
Possibly as early as the 17th century.
12 cm wide, bowl measuring 6.5 cm wide. 4 cm deep.
