We are wrong to attribute stumpwork needlework to the 17th Century in reality it is Stewart Period needlework 1603 -1714. This wonderful fragment, probably intended as a side panel to a box has the ink inscription "Done by Elizabeth Nicholson" and the date 1705.
A silk embroidered panel inscribed in ink to the border 'Done By Elizabeth Nicholson 1705', Worked in coloured silks with flowering branches, birds, and raised work strawberries and fruits is exquisite .
