An unusual mid to late 19th century naïve water colour depicting a sailor seated next to possibly lock turning block. The square hole would take a square pole to help turn it raising either a lock gate or anchor. In the back ground a sailing ship and a fishing boat. His posture would surges he has turned his back on this old life a sea for a new beginning on the canals.
