Sponge Ware pottery is seldom marked, and yet a factory would use the same blanks for a number of decorative styles , so why didn't they mark every piece. It cost time therefore money to mark an item , and possibly not economic on the cheaper range ?.Any way three plates one impressed mark for George Jones, late 19th century.
Delightful pattern of Red Butterflies
This mark was used by George Jones & Sons, a pottery in Stoke, Staffordshire, England. The initials on the mark are the letters “G” and “J” intertwined. George Jones & Sons operated Trent Pottery from about 1864 to 1907 |
