Rare Pitcairn Island wall mounted hand holding goblet inscribed 'Thinking of you from Pitcairn Island Aug 2 1937'
approx. 22cm long.
This is the earliest dated Pitcairn curio we have seen. 2 August 1937. Interestingly R.P.Clark writing in the Western Mail, Perth on 16.9.1937 reports after spending 25 years on the Island that the Men are hard working those not building homes and tending fields on the island make curios for sale to the passing cruise ships that now visit. At the time 233 people lived on the island the most populist it has ever been. |
