Although common in glass , the "Patch Stand" was part of a ladies cosmetic set, to help her apply small patches to her face. Initially to hide small pox scars in the 17th century but later following he French fashion ot send a message to her fiends at social engagements.
I know that these have been attributed to stands in children's toy sets , but the presence of a central design in this case a Chantilly sprig would imply it was not covered.
Staffordshire c.1780.
Diameter 8.3 cm Height2.5 cm.
A number of chips to foot rim unrestored. |
