Vintage Pitcairn Island miro wooden fish by Bert Christian. I believe the fish was brought back from the Pitcairn Islands sometime in the 1940's. Bert Christian was one of the many descendants of Fletcher Christian, who settled in Pitcairn following the mutiny on the Bounty.
The carving is 26 cm long and stands 15 cm high'
There is a small chip on the upper jaw of the fish, but otherwise the condition is good.
Anderson Bert Christian was born on Pitcairn Island on January 23, 1914. He was the son of George Lindsay Christian and Elizabeth Jane Christian. The children of Anderson Bert Christian and Hazel Mossele Christian were Jean Elaine Christian, who was born on March 6, 1951; Barton Ron Erle Christian, who was born on February 27, 1955; and Dale Evan Christian, who was born on January 1, 1961 |
