A very fine Bristol Orphanage sampler by Martha Worboys, who gives her full address as the North Wing, New Orphan House Ashley Down Bristol 1878.
Martha's story highlights the national importance of the School , she was born in Hackney in 1864 over 125 miles away and became a domestic housemaid in Hove East Sussex.
The New Orphan house was finished in 1862 with over 450 children bringing the total to over 1000.
25 x 32 cm.
Condition fold line stain across the middle. This sampler is untouched . |
