a splendid "Staffordshire" slipware jug inscribed and dated DR 1799 .
What I find interesting is how rare to find this style of decoration, with the red body having been decorated with a yellow slip design (not dipped) that has been sgraffito'd,. A Devon potter would have dipped the whole jug and then cut out the pattern. |
