Rare Sussex slipware money box inscribed and dated RACHEL WICKHAM Born Sept.12.1853.
The knob finial above an ovoid body, raised on a circular foot with a single horizontal coin slot.
Rachel was born in Hurstpierpoint Sussex so this was probably made by John Siggery Jur., who was potting in the village at the time. She was the daughter of William & Martha (nee Miles) Agricultural labours She married James Felton a house painter from Steyning Sussex. They had six children. She died aged 77 in 1931. |
