PEARLWARE BARREL |
£SOLD |
There was a great tradition of producing small pearlware spirit barrels in Bristol at the beginning of the 19th Century. Often highly decorated in bright colours. This I feel is in the same tradition but a little different in that it is a true copy of a barrel with both a moulded plug at the base as well as the corked opening at the very top. It also has what I have never seen before is a moulded ring to the bottom so it stands well. The middle painted with a band of small flower heads in over glaze colours.
English possibly Staffordshire ? Bristol circa 1820.
Condition fine, no chips cracks or restoration.
Length 4 inches, 10 cm; Height 4 1/4 inches 11 cm |
