DRAGONS SHELS & NYMPHS, circa 1820.
The first of a collection of early 19th Century blue & white transfer printed plates we will be listing.
A very unusual pattern with a central dragon or sea monster amongst reads, the border of associated sea shells against a blue "sea". The very unusual border has nymphs like women with wings holding garlands and other fruiting bodies with a classical theme running through, the occasional eagle like bird looing on.
Probably Staffordshire circa 1800-20.
Unmarked pearlware.9 3/4 inches in diameter 24.5 cm.
Condition good no chips cracks or restoration. minor ware.
