ARYSHIRE WHITEWORK SAMPLER |
£225 |
It is interesting to compare continental whitework with a Scottish version. This Ayrshire work was probably a professional trade sampler, showing the styles and different lettering done, the different crowns a reflection on the intended client base for this type of work. circa 1860.
A similar example with the Royal coat of arms was made by the firm of Mrs & Miss Bowie, muslin printers and embroiders of Prince Street Edinburgh . (now in the Royal Museum of Scotland) |
