IRISH FALLING (let-down) TABLE. |
£SOLD |
To quote Claudia Kinmouth (Irish Country furniture 1700-1950 ),
The falling table could be considered to be the next step up the evolutionary ladder from the simple baking board. Unfortunately, very few examples of this ingenious space-and timber-saving device have survived intact outside museums.......
The three plank top, with original surface including knife marks (it would have been a work top) with traditional deep red-paint on the underside.
Irish, possibly county Wicklow. Mid 19th Century. |
