NORMANDY , AUGE VALLEY MARRIAGE CHESTS
All Boxed up, and no where to go !.
Just some of a large collection of French Trousseau boxes, generally produced in the Auge Valley around Rouen , Normandy, France, from the end of the 18th to the mid 19th Century. They were intended to be kept inside the big cupboard to hold the brides trousseau.
Painted in gouache on softwood they have a wonderful charming naive folkart appeal. |
