just acquired this wonderful pearlware jug depicting A view of the Sheffield Infirmary, made probably to commemorate its opening in 1797. Now the hospital was proposed in 1793 and was paid for by public donations, the cost of £15,000 and was to serve the population of Sheffield estimated at 20,000 at the time, for 200 years closing in 1978, later pulled down for a super market ! |
