| UNUSUALLY SMALL EARLY 17th Century Panel |
£1450 |
A very unusually small needlework panel depicting a variety of flower patterns within coiling stems of gilt thread . Now this style of decoration was popular at the end and beginning of the 17th century (1580-1620) and appears on costumes inc. jackets, hats & coifs. The inclusion of a small grass mound from which the flowers grow is a feature that appears with Charles I , so probably dating the panel to c.1620-40.
What appears to be its original pearwood frame measuring only 6 1/2 inches 16.5 cm. |
